I was sitting in my office in Nashville. I'd moved there to pursue music, but had to have a day job in order to facilitate living, eating, etc. I was an onsite client services representative that functioned like an HR manager. While I was there, I worked for a temp agency. Not for the temp agency, but a regular temp agency employee that was on site. At that time my boss was such a pain. I mean, I couldn't do anything right and she would just give me crap all the time. Well, one day she wanted me to do reports but would not pay for overtime as I couldn't find or manage my time during the day to complete the tasks given to me. She gave me a short deadline and was in my opinion, Satan incarnate. Well, she left and I just started writing these lyrics that day (during work of course) and came up with the bulk of the song right there in Nashville off of Donelson Pike. This is the culmination of about a 20 minute song and a long period of time before it was released. Note to all of you that read this, daydreaming sometime pays off. I hope this song does well enough to pay for a meal someday, but alas, I'm a leprechaun without the gold.
Lyrics
Verse I
Need a new location away from the burbs
A permanent vacation without the verbs.
I’d drink a margarita while laying on a hammock.
Got to kick my feet up before I run them ragged.
Take a trip to the moon, send myself into orbit.
Want to go real soon but afraid I can’t afford it.
I’m a leprechaun without the gold.
All my money’s gone ain’t no rainbows.
Chorus
But ain’t that a bitch
You want something for nothing
But oh ain’t that a bitch.
Can’t stand on the sidelines, oh
Ain’t that a bitch
Verse II
Where’s Lady Luck, she’s an absentee
Does her best to annoy me
Laughing in the shadows as I drop my trow
Mine be coming cause she’s screwing me now
One step forward, two steps back
Try to find my footing, the things that I lack
They say that variety is the spice of life
80 hour week, no overtime
To chorus
Searching for your freedom, treated like a slave
It’s not BK can’t have it your way
In your life gotta check your station
You don’t got money find some motivation
Don’t play checkers, gotta play some chess
This shit don’t work, unless you change it
Gotta change your habits so that you last
Can’t look forward gotta live in the past
Ain’t that a bitch, woah, oh.
Ain’t that a bitch, woah, oh.
Ain’t that a bitch, woah, oh.
This life woah, oh, oh, Ain’t that a bitch
